NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Jessa Youso (Jr./Virginia, Minn./Virginia) led all players with 12 kills, but the Carleton College volleyball team (13-8, 3-4 MIAC) saw its three-match win streak snapped by a 3-1 loss to Augsburg College.
Defense was the story of the match as the Knights posted just an .020 attack percentage, bettered slightly by the Auggies at .095. Erin Anderson (Sr./Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) paced the hosts with 21 of Carleton’s 72 digs. Augsburg had three players in double-figures as the visitors brought up 82 balls.
Augsburg went on a 13-2 run midway through the opening game and pulled away for a 25-17 win. The Knights were serving with a 23-22 lead in the second set, but the Auggies scored the final three points to take a commanding lead in the contest.
Carleton refused to quit and erased a three-point deficit to earn a 25-21 victory in the third set and extend the match. In the fourth set, however, Augsburg slowly pulled away before closing the night with a 7-1 spurt for a 25-14 triumph.
Alicia Flatt (Fy./Walnut Creek, Calif./Carondelet) handed out 30 assists and added 13 digs. Sarah Nielsen (Jr./Altoona, Wis./Altoona) notched a team-best five blocks and was second on the squad with nine kills.
Micha Sater and Tabby Roh had 11 and 10 kills respectively to lead the Auggies.
Carleton hits the road for three of its final four regular-season matches. The Knights have a week to get ready for an Oct. 19 contest at the College of Saint Benedict.
