Angie Grabowski (Plymouth, Minn./ Maple Grove) hit six of 11 from the field to score 17 points and dished out four assists as Carleton kept their perfect record in tact with a 62-52 win at Macalester.
The Knights used stifling defense and their multitude of weapons to overwhelm the Scots in the early going as they jumped out to a 20-7 lead with ten minutes remaining in the first half.
An eight to two flurry in the last two minutes of the half gave Carleton a comfortable 32-17 lead at the half. Karen Fricke (Vernon Hills, Ill./ Stephenson) shot a perfect three for three in the opening half, including a three-pointer.
The Knights continued to control play and Grabowski’s second three of the game pushed the lead to 17 with 9:36 left.
Macalester would not fade away and used an eight-point run sparked by a trey from Afton Hanson to cut Carleton’s lead to just eight with under six minutes to play.
The Knights as always had an answer and stormed back with a basket from Kristi Colbenson (Rushford, Minn./ Rushford-Peterson) followed by two more from Karissa Kramer (Clearwater, Minn./ Monticello) to give the Knights breathing room as the game wound down.
Fricke ended the game with 11 points and six boards, while Katie Freeman (Richfield, Minn.) grabbed seven boards in just 15 minures of action.
Carleton held the Scots to just 34.5 percent from the field, while shooting at a respectable 45 percent clip.
The Knights only made it to the line nine times and turned the ball over 15 times to Macalester’s 11.
The win pushes Carleton’s record to a remarkable 19-0 and 16-0 in the MIAC.
