ST. PAUL, Minn. -- After a dominating win at the MIAC Championships, several Knights officially received their awards from the MIAC. Donna Ricks was named Coach of the Year, while Simone Childs-Walker (So./Seattle, Wash./Lakeside), Taylor Ffitch (So./Portland, Ore./St. Mary’s Academy) and Laura Roach (Sr./Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) received their All-MIAC honors. Alison Smyth (So./Billings, Mont./West) earned All-MIAC honorable mention, and Nikki Reich (Sr./Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) was selected for the MIAC All-Sportsmanship team.
For Ricks, it was her fourth time winning the Coach of the Year honor. She previously won the award in 1995, 2004 and 2005. The Knights have been a model of consistency under Ricks. In 13 of the 17 years Ricks has been at the helm of the Carleton program, the Knights have finished in the top three at the MIAC Championships.
Childs-Walker, Ffitch, Smyth and Roach have all been honorees before. Last year, Childs-Walker and Roach earned All-MIAC, while Ffitch and Smyth were honorable mention. Roach earned either All-MIAC or All-MIAC honorable mention in each of her four years.
Reich has been an invaluable help to the Knights program throughout her four years. She finished 30th at this year’s MIAC Championships.
The Knights will race next at the Central Region Championships on Nov. 14 in Grinnell, Iowa.
