WINONA, Minn. -- Ruth Steinke (So./Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) placed second overall in the race as the Carleton College women’s cross country team also finished second in the team competition at the Saint Mary’s Alumni Open. The Knights were the top Division III squad, finishing with 37 points, only 15 points behind the race winner Winona State University, a NCAA Division II institution.
Carleton placed its five scorers among the top 12 runners, including Colette Celichowski (Jr./Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) who finished fourth overall. Shira Kaufman (So./Leverett, Mass./Amherst Regional Academy) and Ahna Weeks (So./Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill) also cracked the top 10 with times of 20:19 and 20:22, respectively. Rachel Winona (Fy./Shakopee, Minn.) closed out the scoring for Carleton with her 12th-place finish.
The Knights will be back in action on Sept. 21 when they race at the St Olaf Invitational.
