NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women’s cross country team raced to a second-place result at the St. Olaf Invitational, finishing close behind University of Minnesota-Duluth in the 15-team field. Colette Celichowski (Jr./Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) and Ruth Steinke (So./Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) recorded top-10 finishes to lead the Knights.
The top three teams in today’s standings are each nationally ranked. Minnesota-Duluth, listed at No. 16 in the NCAA Division II rankings, accumulated 46 points with Carleton (No. 15 in Division III) totaling 68 points. Host St. Olaf, the No. 12 squad in D-III, was next at 94 points.
The Knights had five runners finish in the top 25 with Celichowski leading the way, completing the race in 22:35.2 for a fourth-place finish. Steinke recorded a seventh-place time of 22:41.8.
Also scoring for Carleton were Shira Kaufman (So./Leverett, Mass/Amherst Acad.) who completed the race in 15th at 23:23.0, Winona Rachel (Fy./Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) in 17th with 23:26.8, and Sally Donovan (So./Minneapolis, Minn./South) in 25th with a time of 23:45.8.
The next race for the Knights will be the Roy Griak Invitatioanl next Saturday, Sept 28, at the Les Bolstad Golf Course on the campus of the University of Minnesota in St Paul. The starting gun goes off at 9:00 a.m.
