ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Carleton College Women's Cross Country finished fourth among 32 teams in the Maroon Division III races at the Roy Griak Invitational. This race was just one of ten separate races of the day. Last year the Knights finished eighth at this event.
The Knights were also the top team in the MIAC and central region trailed by seventh place team, St. Thomas.
Simone Childs-Walker (Sr./Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) finished third overall, and was the top runner in the central region. Childs-Walker finished behind UW-Oshkosh's Christy Cazzola and Minnesota Morris's Linda Keller, both juniors.
Childs-Walker made her move later in the race. At the one kilometer mark she was in 34th place, moving up to fifth and then third at the two and three kilometer marks.
Fellow senior Alison Smyth (Portland,Ore/St. Mary's) celebrated her 21st birthday by finishing ninth for the Knights.
Among 385 runners, two additional Knights finished in the top 50. At number 26 was Taylor Ffitch (Sr./Billings, Mont./Billings West) while Becca Herd (Fy./Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) finished 47.
The Knights will race again on Friday, September 30 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugold Open.
