Knights Leap to 19th in Golf World Poll

September 30, 2009 at 11:00 pm

Golf World/NGCA Division III poll

Northfield, Minn.--Carleton College moved into the first Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association's national poll of the regular season in a big way, as the Knights are 19th.

Carleton was ranked most of last season but unranked in the pre-season poll. This marks the second-highest ranking for the program, as the 2007-08 team was ranked 17th during the spring season.

Carleton enters this weekend's MIAC Championships on the heels of its best fall season in program history. The Knights have knocked 10 shots off their team average compared to 2008-09, when they set a new school record for best team average.

The MIAC has four teams in the poll, more than any other conference. Gustavus Adolphus College is ranked #2, College of St. Benedict is #18 and University of St. Thomas is #22.

"It's great recognition for the ladies and is a testament to their hard work and outstanding performances this fall," Carleton head coach Eric Sieger said.
