LE SUEUR, Minn.—Shannon Holden (Fy./Simi Valley, Calif./Royal) overcame a sub-par ball-striking round, posting a four-over par 77, helping No. 17 Carleton College finish in a tie with No. 21 Gustavus Adolphus College in a dual match between the two teams.
Holden’s score was the low of the day among the two squads and one of only two under 80.
The Knights and Gusties both finished with 335 team scores on a wind-swept day at Le Sueur Country Club, Gustavus’ home course.
“It was a very difficult day out there for both teams,” Carleton head coach Eric Sieger said. “These were probably the toughest conditions we faced all year, and Le Sueur has a number of tricky holes and not having seen the course before didn’t help us, either.”
Geraldine Tellbuescher (Fy./Ashiya, Japan/Canadian Academy) added an 84, Kelsey Moede (Jr./Lake Oswego, Ore.) and 85 and Grace Gilmore (So./Edina, Minn.) an 89 to round out Carleton’s scoring.
The Knights return to action next weekend, hosting the seven-team Carleton Invitational at Northfield Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27. Teams in the field include Carleton, No. 15 St. Thomas, Gustavus, defending IIAC champion and 24th-ranked Wartburg College (Iowa), defending WIAC champion University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, St. Olaf College and College of St. Benedict.
