Rookies Push Knights Into Second After D3 Classic's First Round

LAKE CITY, Minn.--Shannon Holden broke 80 for the fourth time in five tries of her young career while Geraldine Tellbuescher marked her return to the Knights' line-up with a career-low 79 to match Holden's score, as No. 24 sits in second place of its own Division 3 Classic after round one.

The Knights fired a 324, trailing No. 22 St. Thomas (315), but two clear of No. 13 Gustavus. Defending WIAC champion, UW-Stout, sits fourth at 328. The Blue Devils' Brittany McNett-Emmerich leads the field after a two-over par 74, followed by UST's Doyle O'Brien at 75. Holden and Tellbuescher are part of an eight-player logjam at seven-over par 79.

Kelsey Moede (Jr./Lake Oswego, Ore.) and Grace Gilmore (So./Edina, Minn.) posted an 82 and 84, respectively. Mara Daly (So./St. Louis Park, Minn.) added an 88 to round out Carleton's top five, matching the third-lowest score of her career. Kate DeMeulenaere (Fy./Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) added an 89 and Maggie Corso (Fy./Palos Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) a 95 playing as individuals for the Knights.

The 16-team field is slated to tee off at 7:30 a.m. at The Jewel Golf Club on Sunday. The Knights are at 9:09 a.m.
