MIAC Championships Live Scoring
Coon Rapids, Minn.--Laura Knutson (Jr./Edina, Minn.) fired an 11-over par 83 and moved up one spot into a tie for third individually, and Traci Johnson (So./Lakeville, Minn./North) and Hope Keaney (Fy./San Anselmo, Calif./Marin Catholic) shot 84 and 85, respectively, as 19th-ranked Carleton shaved six shots off its first-round score to remain in a tie for third at the MIAC Championships at 688.
The Knights enter Monday's final round six shots back of 18th-ranked St. Benedict and tied with 22-ranked St. Thomas. Third-ranked Gustavus Adolphus leads at 653. Katie Schenfeld of Gustavus paces the individual chase at 14-over 158, six ahead of Knutson, who is tied with St. Benedict's Kathryn Hauff and Amy Anderson St. Thomas.
Johnson and Keaney, meanwhile, moved into position for a possible top-10 finish, which earns players All-MIAC honors. Johnson used her third-best career round to move into a tie for 12th at 172. Keaney, meanwhile, struggled on the back nine after firing a two-over par 38 on the front nine but is still in the hunt for all-conference honors at 173 in a tie for 15th.
"We played well today, but we weren't able to put the finishing touches on our rounds," Carleton head coach Eric Sieger said. "We got off to such a horrible start yesterday, and I thought we did a much better job of that today and midway through the round we looked like we could move into second place, but we weren't able to close the deal."
The 688 total, though, is still the best 36-hole total the Knights have ever posted at the MIAC Championships and the seventh-best in program history. The second-round score of 341 is the second-best score in MIAC Championships program history.
"We've played solid this weekend," Sieger said. "We had a strong finish on Saturday and a good start today, now we just need to put a full round together across the board."
