The first tournament is in the books, and it was a very solid weekend for the Knights.
We participated in the Doug Georgianni Memorial, hosted by UW-Eau Claire. As always, it’s a great event with lots of top-notch teams, including five nationally ranked teams. The first day at the much-easier Mill Run Golf Course, we shot a 343, a solid score. We didn’t play brilliantly, but I saw very few mistakes and that makes a coach very happy! Hope Keaney ’13, playing from the second slot, had the best debut ever for a Carleton rookie, firing a 79. Louise Buckler ’11, who missed all of last spring on a study abroad experience, rode a back-nine eagle to a final-round 82 in Sunday’s final round, helping us lower our team score three shots on a much-tougher Wild Ridge Golf Club, and a two-day total of 683.
The 340 was the eighth-best score in school history and the 36-hole total is the fourth-best at Carleton.
Those scores allowed us to finish fifth, as we beat #2 UW-Stevens Point, #15 St. Thomas and #20 UW-Whitewater. We passed both NAIA Viterbo College (Wis.) and UW-Whitewater after trailing each school by four shots heading into the final round.
Hope was our top finisher, adding an 86 for a 165 total and a share of 15th place.
