KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Senior Marlena Hartman-Filson (Evergreen, Colo./Colorado Academy) picked up her second career All-Region recognition as she was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-North Region third team.
Hartman-Filson transitioned from forward to midfielder during the season and still finished second on the Knights with four goals scored—including two game winners—and third in total points (9).
She came up with clutch goals throughout her career and 2012 was no exception. Three of her scores gave the Knights the lead, while the other helped seal Carleton’s 2-0 victory over conference champion Concordia-Moorhead.
In fact, the Knights defeated all three NCAA Tournament teams they played during the 2012 campaign, posting victories over Concordia, Wartburg College (1-0), and College of St. Scholastica (1-0). Hartman-Filson tallied the game-winner against St. Scholastica.
Hartman-Filson was previously an All-Region second-team selection in 2010 when she tied for the MIAC lead with 13 goals scored. She is the sixth Knight to earn multiple All-Region awards.
The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dominated the NSCAA All-Region first, second, and third teams as the league accounted for 11 of the 33 honorees.
