ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Sophomore defender Rachel Foran (River Forest, Ill./Oak Park River Forest) scored off a corner kick from Megan Milligan (Las Cruces, N.M.) in the 73rd minute to propel the Carleton College women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the College of Saint Benedict.
Milligan placed a nicely served ball right to the top of the six-yard box where, Foran headed it into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal.
“We had a lot of great opportunities in both halves,” said Carleton head coach Keren Gudeman. “Overall, I’m quite pleased with our effort.”
Carleton (5-4-1, 3-2 MIAC) out-shot the Blazers 16-7, and Shannon Strohm notched 10 saves to keep Saint Benedict in the contest. At the other end of the pitch, Beth Ashinsky (Fy./Mount Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) turned aside three shots on goal to record her third shutout in as many starts.
The Knights have won four out of their last five and will return home after a seemingly endless road trip. Carleton has played 8-of its last-10 games away from home, including five conference tilts.
Carleton hosts Bethel University in a rare Friday afternoon affair on October 9 at 4 p.m. Knights Online will feature a live video webcast of the match as Carleton prepares to close the regular season with five of the last seven contests played at Bell Field.
