NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Rookie goalkeeper Beth Ashinsky (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) continued her sparkling play, recording 14 saves as the Carleton College women’ soccer team played to a scoreless draw with No. 23 University of St. Thomas. In four starts this season, Ashinsky has yet to surrender a goal.
At the other end of the pitch, Allie Byron was required to make seven stops for the Tommies (10-2-1, 6-0-1 MIAC).
St. Thomas held a distinct advantage in time in the attacking zone and accumulated a 25-13 edge in shots. Ashinsky made several sprawling saves to help the Knights (6-5-2, 4-2-1 MIAC) secure a point in the standings, moving Carleton into a tie with Macalester College for fourth place.
After each team took four shots in the opening half, St. Thomas turned up the pressure, out-shooting Carleton 18-6 over the second half and first overtime. Each team had a trio of shots in the overtime.
Carleton next hosts Augsburg College on Saturday, Oct. 17 for a 1 p.m. contest. Knights Online will feature a live video webcast of the match.
