NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women’s soccer team (6-5-3, 4-2-2 MIAC) played its third straight overtime game and ended up with its second consecutive scoreless draw, tying Augsburg College, 0-0 in two overtimes. The Knights amassed a 22-3 edge in shots but settled for the tie.
The result did very little to help the Knights chances of returning to the post-season as three points for a win would have helped much more than the single point they receive for a tie. Carleton is currently fifth in the MIAC standings with 14 points, one behind Saint Benedict, with only three conference tilts remaining. Two of those matches are against teams ahead of the Knights in the standings.
Kate Trenerry (Jr./Rochester, Minn./Century) needed to make only one save in posting the team’s seventh shutout in the last eight games.
Marlena Hartman-Filson (Fy./Evergreen, Colo./Colorado Academy) had one of the better scoring chances with a header in the first half, but Augsburg goalkeeper Diana Bocklund was in the right spot to deny the rookie and notch one of her 10 saves.
Two minutes into the second half, Carleton came up empty on another dandy scoring chance. The Knights’ corner kick skipped across the goal line but no one from either team was able to get a foot on it.
In their next game, the Knights face national No. 14 Concordia College-Moorhead on Friday, Oct. 23. The Cobbers (13-0, 8-0 MIAC) have already secured their spot in the four-team MIAC Playoffs.
