ST. PETER, Minn. – Sarah Hagerty (Jr./Boulder, Colo./Boulder) scored in the 61st minute as the Carleton College women’s soccer team picked up a road conference victory, 1-0, at Gustavus Adolphus College. The Knights improve to 2-2-1 in MIAC action (4-4-1 overall), good for sixth place in the conference standings.
After a scoreless first half, Niki Tomita (Sr./Redwood City, Calif./Woodside) setup the goal by beating her defender along the end line and slotting the ball across the six-yard box. Hagerty made a great run to the far post, fielded the easy pass and tapped it into the open goal.
Carleton possessed a 17-8 edge in shots and had another scoring chance thwarted by the crossbar. Hagerty sent a corner kick into the box and Rachel Foran's (Sr./River Forest, Ill./Oak Park River Forest) header struck the pipe.
Beth Ashinsky (Jr./Mount Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) collected five saves and notched her 13th career shutout.
The Knights return to the pitch on Sunday, Oct. 2 when Luther College visits Bell Field for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
