Women's Soccer hosts College of St. Scholastica

Knights Edge St. Scholastica, 1-0

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Marlena Hartman-Filson’s (Sr./Evergreen, Colo./Colorado Acad.) goal in the 88th minute was the difference as the Carleton College women’s soccer team defeated the College of St. Scholastica, 1-0, in a game worthy of two team tied for third in the region.

Hartman collected the ball 25 yards out and fired a shot that sailed over the outstretched arms of Saints’ goalkeeper Kelsey Reeves but snuck under the crossbar for the Carleton co-captain’s first goal of the season.

The Saints (1-2-1) started the game with strong pressure on the Knights, but Carleton (4-1-0) found its rhythm about 15 minutes in and eventually posted an 18-4 advantage in shots, though only seven of those attempts were on goal.

The Knight defense held the Saints without a shot attempt over a 60-minute stretch from midway through the first half until the 81st minute. Carleton goalkeeper Mikayla Coulombe (Fy./Crystal, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret’s) registered three saves as she completed her third shutout of the season.

This was also the Knights’ third 1-0 victory already this campaign.

The Knights open MIAC play on Wednesday, Sept. 12 then they host St. Catherine University. Play is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m., and live video will be available on Knights Online.
