BALTIMORE, Md. – The Carleton College women’s swimming and diving team earned Scholar All-American honors from the College Swim Coaches Association of American (CSCAA). The Knights tied for 10th in Division III after posting a combined team grade point average of 3.49 during the 2009 spring term. Carleton also tied for 17th among all women's swim programs in Division I, II, III and NAIA.
In order to be named on the Scholar All-American list, squads must have had a combined team grade point average of 3.00 or better on a 4.00 scale. The NYU women led the way with a 3.56 GPA. Seven women’s programs from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) received the distinction for the spring term.
The other conference teams on the list include: College of Saint Benedict (3.45 GPA), Macalester College (3.43 GPA), Concordia College (3.36 GPA), College of St. Catherine (3.34 GPA), Gustavus Adolphus College (3.34 GPA), and Hamline University (3.20 GPA).
The CSCAA produces the Scholar All-American list twice each year. The spring list also recognized individual Scholar All-American honorees, who were selected on the basis of their performance in the pool and the classroom.
Carleton's Becky Alexander (Sr./Tigard, Ore.), Kate Alexander (Jr./Tigard, Ore.), Maggie Alexander (Fy./Tualatin, Ore.), and Kaarin Taylor (Sr./Gainesville, Fla.) earned individual 2009 CSCAA Scholar All-American honors. That quartet out-numbered the rest of the conference as Gustavus (2) and Macalester (1) also had student-athletes on the list.
Nine other women from the MIAC earned individual Honorable Mention Scholar All-American status, including Carleton's Mia Zutz (Jr./Middleton, Wis.)
