Knights Add Five All-MIAC Awards on Day Three of MIAC Meet

MINNEAPOLIS – On the final day of action at the MIAC Swimming and Diving Championships, the Carleton women accumulated four individual all-conference performances as well as an All-MIAC showing in the meet’s final event. Overall the Knights finished fifth in the team competition.

Maggie Alexander (Sr./Tigard, Ore./Tualatin) and Annie Metcalf (Sr./Bath, Maine/Morse) claimed All-MIAC honors by finishing second and third respectively, in the 200-yard backstroke. Both Knights recorded NCAA ‘B’ cut times as Alexander touched the wall at 2:04.91 and Metcalf did so in 2:05.67. Alison Coogan (Fy./River Forest, Ill./Oak Park & River Forest) contributed to Carleton’s point total by placing 10th at 2:11.50.

In the very next event, the 100-yard freestyle, Sophie Pilhofer (Jr./Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Visitation) and Milana Socha (So./Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) garnered All-MIAC distinction as they finished second and third at 52.79 and 53.06, respectively. Erin McDuffie (Jr./Anchorage, Alaska/Service) took fifth in the same event, finishing in 53.29, and Molly Spence (Jr./Tacoma, Wash./Woodrow Wilson) was 15th at 54.47.

The Knights concluded the meet with a third-place result in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Pilhofer, Socha, McDuffie, and Alexander combined for a time of 3:32.46, which is a NCAA ‘B’ cut mark.

Gustavus Adolphus College won the 11-team competition with 687 points, followed by St. Olaf College (643), University of St. Tomas (520), College of Saint Benedict (478), and Carleton (448).

Carleton’s scoring on day three began with Austen Chase (Sr./San Antonio, Texas/International School of the Americas) finishing 14th in the 1-meter diving competition, and Hannah Heavenrich (Sr./Berkley, Mich./Berkley) placing 14th in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:43.73.

Carleton also got points in the 200-yard butterfly as Samantha Sharpe (So./San Rafael, Calif./San Rafael) won the consolation heat, dropping nearly three seconds off her preliminary time to finish at 2:16.87. Mallory Pernell (Sr./Austin, Texas/Westlake) was 12th at 2:19.73.
