Socha Wins 100 Free at Jane Freeman Invite

MINNEAPOLIS – Milana Socha’s (Sr./Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) victory in the 100-yard freestyle highlighted the action on day two of the Jane Freeman Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota.

The meet NCAA Division I schools Minnesota and South Dakota State University as well as many squads from around the MIAC.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Socha touched the wall in 52.76, matching her lifetime best. Of the next 15 times in the event, 13 were turned in by Division I athletes with a total of 89 racers in the event.

Halie Langanki (So./Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View) and Samantha Sharpe (Sr./San Rafael, Calif./San Rafael) performed well once again, finishing fifteenth and sixteenth in the 400 individual medley. Langanki touched in 4:50:88. Her senior teammate was less than four seconds behind her.

Masha Toulokhonova (Fy./Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) added an 11th-place result in the 1650-yard freestyle, improving on her season-best time to 18:52.0

Maria Wetzel (Fy./Salem, Ore./West Salem) also gave the Knights another set of strong performances, chief among them a 59.91 finish in the 100 backstroke. She claimed seventh place out of 62 racers. Socha was 13th in the event at 1:01.55.

Socha, Alexandra Guy (Jr./Denver, Colo./Denver School of the Arts), Madison McBride (So./Elko, Minn./Lakeville South), and Wetzel finished ninth in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 3:41.33.

Socha and the rest of the Knights depart next week for their Winter Break Competition Trip. This year the Knights fly to the Florida Keys and will face Kalamazoo College next weekend.
