ROCHESTER, Minn. -- Sophie Pilhöfer (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Visitation) had the fastest time during the preliminary round and placed second in the finals of the 50-yard freestyle on day one of the Rochester Invite hosted by St. Cloud State University. The Carleton senior also advanced to the finals in the 100-yard butterfly.
Pilhofer’s time of 23.80 in the 50 freestyle was tops among the 66 racers in the field. She was one of two Division III swimmers to make the “A” finals, where she finished second and bettered six D-II competitors in her heat. Milana Socha (Jr./Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) advanced to “B” finals at 24.81 and was 13th overall at 24.95.
Socha also claimed a spot in the “C” finals of the 200-yard freestyle
The Knights completed the evening with a seventh-place result in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Pilhofer, Socha, Madison McBride (Fy./Elko, Minn./Lakeville South) and Molly Spence (Sr./Tacoma, Wash./Woodrow Wilson) combined to finish at 1:40.52.
Sunday’s competition at the Rochester-Olmstead County Recreation Center Natatorium resumes with prelims at 9:30 a.m. followed by the finals at 6:30 p.m.
