INDIANAPOLIS -- Carleton first-year Kathryn Schmidt (Hopkins, Minn.) was among 32 single players selected by the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Committee selected to compete in the 2009 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championships. Schmidt is the first Knight to reach the national tournament since Sara Russell ’06 at the end of the 2005 season.

Schmidt was tabbed All-MIAC at both singles and doubles in her first season of collegiate tennis, going undefeated during league play at both types of competition. She ended the regular season with an impressive 15-2 overall singles record, including a 4-1 record versus regionally ranked opponents.

The singles and doubles championships will be co-hosted by Oglethorpe University and Gwinnett Sports Commission, May 22-24, at Collins Hill Athletic Club in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

The draw for the individual championships will be done by the women’s tennis committee and will be released on the last day of the team championships.
