SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Carleton College women’s tennis team has had a very strong start to their 2012 season, boasting a 5-1 record overall and a 4-0 record in conference play. The Knight’s early success has helped them to climb up one spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Women’s National Team Rankings. The ITA rankings were released on Thursday, and the Knights have moved up one spot to No. 20 in the nation.
The ITA Division III Regional Rankings are not due to be released until March 12. In the ITA Regional Preseason Rankings, Carleton captured the No. 6 spot, while Kathryn Schmidt (Sr./Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins) and Anne Lombardi (So./Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) were ranked No. 5 and No. 25 respectively in the individual player rankings. The duo of Schmidt and Lombardi were also the fifth ranked doubles team in the nation at the start of the 2012 season.
The Knights are scheduled to travel to Hilton Head, S.C. over spring break. While in Hilton Head, the Knights will take on many teams including Allegheny College, the University of Chicago, Erskine College, and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
