Knights Blank Bethel to Get Back in Win Column

LAKEVILLE, Minn. – The Carleton College women’s tennis team bounced back from its first conference loss in more than a year with a commanding 9-0 victory over Bethel University. It was the fifth shutout the Knights have recorded in MIAC matches this season.

Anne Lombardi (Jr./Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and Bridget Doyle (Sr./Mendota Heights, Minn./Visitation) pulled out a 9-8 victory at first doubles. Things got more comfortable when the pair moved to singles as Lombardi notched a 6-3, 6-0 win atop the lineup, and Doyle sailed to a 6-0, 6-0 result at second singles.

Rookies Mikayla Becich (Bradfordwoods, Pa./North Allegheny) and Grace Davis (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) notched an 8-4 triumph at second doubles. Becich cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 singles victory.

Molly Hemes (Jr./Green Bay, Wis./Preble) and Joyce Yu (Fy./Taipei, Taiwan/Taipei American School) also won 8-4 in doubles, followed by Hemes picking up her third straight singles victory, coming out on top 6-3, 6-3.

First-years Claire Spencer (Fy./Newport News, Va./Menchville) and Julia Krumholz (Fy./Hingham, Mass./Hingham) picked up straight set wins in singles play for the final two team points. For Spencer, the result lifted her season record to 7-1.

Carleton will face Winona State, a NCAA Division II program on Thursday, March 7 at 6:30 p.m. in Lakeville, Minn.
