    Schmidt Wins Marathon Match to Take Fifth Place at ITA Small College Championship

    Carleton College sophomore Kathryn Schmidt finished her weekend of action at the ITA National Small College Championships in dramatic fashion, prevailing 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (1-7), and 7-6 (7-1) in a nearly four hour-long match. Schmidt captured fifth place as she capped a tournament that saw her defeat the defending national singles champion on Friday.

    Schmidt Captures Singles Title at ITA Regional

    Top-seeded Kathryn Schmidt of Carleton College did not lose a set as she captured the singles title at the three-day Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Tournament. She advances to play in the ITA National Small College Championships from Oct. 15-18 in Mobile, Ala. ITA Midwest Regional Website

    Schmidt Falls in Opening Round of NCAA Championships

    First-year Kathryn Schmidt lost 6-0, 6-4 to Jackie Shtemberg from The College of New Jersey in the opening round of the 2009 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships. Schmidt finishes the year 15-3 in singles play.

    Schmidt Selected for NCAA Championships

    Carleton first-year Kathryn Schmidt was among 32 single players selected by the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Committee selected to compete in the 2009 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championships. Schmidt is the first Knight to reach the national tournament since Sara Russell ’06 at the end of the 2005 season.

    Schmidt, Gudul and Leung Earn All-MIAC Honors

    Rookies Kathryn Schmidt and Erin Gudul earned All-MIAC honors in both singles and doubles. Frances Leung was awarded All-MIAC for the third straight year in singles and for the second time in doubles.
