OWATONNA, Minn. – The Carleton College women’s tennis team improved to 5-0 on the season, including a 4-0 mark in conference action, after recording an 8-1 triumph over St. Catherine University.
The Knights top four players in tonight’s lineup—Katherine Greenberg (So./St. Louis, Mo./Clayton), Molly Hemes (So./Green Bay, Wis./Preble), Anne Lombardi (So./Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central), and Kathryn Schmidt (Sr./Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins)—each posted wins in singles and doubles.
Although they lost, 8-5, at third doubles, Felicity Flesher (So./Oxford, Miss./Oxford) and Erin Wilson (So./Novato, Calif./Marin Academy) bounced back for identical 6-4, 6-4 victories in singles.
Lombardi had the hardest time during singles play. She dropped the first set 4-6, but then turned things around by winning the second set 6-1 before closing out the match by a 10-2 margin.
Carleton will face a tougher challenge in its next match, on Sunday, Feb. 26 at the University of Minnesota.
