LAKEVILLE, Minn. – The Carleton College women’s tennis team bounced back from its first loss of the season—a setback at the hands of Division I University of Minnesota on Sunday—with a 9-0 victory over MIAC opponent Bethel University. Molly Hemes (Sr./Green Bay, Wis./Preble) and Joyce Yu (So./Taipei, Taiwan/Taipei American School) both recorded victories during singles and doubles action.
With the victory, the Knights improved to 6-1 on the season and 4-0 in conference play. Carleton swept the three doubles matches and won five singles matches in straight sets.
Claire Spencer (So./Newport News, Va./Menchville) played the most dramatic contest of the evening, rallying from a set down to prevail 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 at first singles.
The Knights, the 2013 MIAC Playoff champion and the 2012 regular-season champs, will face defending MIAC regular-season champion St. Catherine University on Sunday, March 2. That contest will be played at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
