SARTELL, Minn. – The Carleton College women’s tennis team improved to 3-0 this season following a second consecutive triumph over a NCAA Division II program. This time the Knights topped St. Cloud State University, 9-0, with third-set tiebreakers by seniors Molly Hemes (Green Bay, Wis./Preble) and Katherine Greenberg (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) completing the shutout.

Carleton (3-0) won comfortably in all three doubles matches. Seniors Anne Lombardi (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and Hemes picked up an 8-5 victory atop the lineup followed by an 8-3 triumph by sophomores Grace Davis (So./Neenah, Wis./Neenah) and Mikayla Becich (Bradfordwoods, Pa./North Allegheny) at second doubles, with Greenberg and Joyce Yu (So./Taipei, Taiwan/Taipei American School) prevailing by the same score at the third spot.

In singles, Lombardi showed why she is ranked No. 9 in the central region by notching an impressive 6-0, 6-0 triumph at first singles. Becich, Claire Spencer (So./Newport News, Va./Menchville), an Yu each also added a straight-sets victory.

With the Knights already poised to hand the Huskies (4-1) their first loss of the season, Hemes and Greenberg both came out on top 10-5 in the tiebreakers to make the final score even more convincing.
