LAKEVILLE, Minn. – Fresh off being bumped up one spot in the national rankings, the Carleton College women’s tennis team picked up another conference victory on Friday night, sweeping Bethel University, 9-0. Felicity Flesher (So./Oxford, Miss./Oxford) was one of five Knights to notch victories in both singles and doubles. Carleton is No. 20 in the latest ITA rankings.
With a juggled lineup, the the Knights saw Bridget Doyle (Jr./Mendota Heights, Minn./Visitation) and Anne Lombardi (So./Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) win convincingly at first doubles, 8-1.
The pairings of Katherine Greenberg (So./St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) with Molly Hemes (So./Green Bay, Wis./Preble) and Erin Wilson (So./Novato, Calif./Marin Academy) with Flesher faced the stiffest challenges of the match but both tandems prevailed, 8-6 and 8-5 respectively.
Kathryn Schmidt (Sr./Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins), the No. 5 ranked singles player in the central region, dominated at first singles as she prevailed 6-0 and 6-0. Doyle, Lombardi, Hemes, Greenberg and Flesher also won their singles matches in straight sets.
The Knights now step away from competition for two-and-a-half weeks before facing four opponents during Carleton’s annual trip to Hilton Head, S.C. Two of those matches will come against nationally-ranked programs, No. 4 University of Chicago and No. 30 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
