ST. PETER, Minn. – Top-seeded Carleton College swept University of St. Thomas, 5-0, in its semifinal match at the 2012 MIAC Women’s Tennis Playoffs. The Knights will face second-seeded Gustavus Adolphus in the finals with the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament at stake.
Carleton won all three doubles in convincing fashion. Erin Gudul (Sr./North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) and Kathryn Schmidt (Sr./Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins) prevailed at first doubles, 8-2. Meanwhile, the tandems of Bridget Doyle (Jr./Mendota Heights, Minn./Visitation) and Anne Lombardi (So./Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) along with Katherine Greenberg (So./St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) and Molly Hemes (So./Green Bay, Wis./Preble) both posted victories by margins of 8-3.
Doyle notched a 6-3, 6-1 victory at second singles, and Lombardi notched the match-sealing point by a 6-4, 6-3 score at third singles.
