LAKEVILLE, Minn. – The Carleton College women’s tennis team started defense of its 2012 MIAC regular-season title with a convincing 9-0 victory over Hamline University. The Knights dropped only seven total games in the three doubles and six singles matches.
Bridget Doyle (Sr./Mendota Heights, Minn./Visitation) and Grace Davis (Fy./Neenah, Wis./Neenah) prevailed at first doubles, 8-1, with Anne Lombardi (Jr./Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and Molly Hemes (Jr./Green Bay, Wis./Preble) proving victorious by the same score. Katherine Greenberg (Jr./St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) and Julia Krumholz (Fy./Hingham, Mass./Hingham) recorded a shutout at the third slot.
Things did not get any easier for the Pipers once play shifted to singles, as the Knights (2-0, 1-0 MIAC) won all six matches in straight sets. Davis and Joyce Yu (Fy./Taipei, Taiwan/Taipei American School) triumphed without dropping a game. Doyle, Claire Spencer (Fy./Newport News, Va./Menchville) and Felicity Flesher (Jr./Oxford, Miss./Oxford) picked up 6-1, 6-0 victories, while Lombardi posted a 6-2, 6-0 decision in the other match.
Carleton hit the road and face Concordia College on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 2:30 p.m. in Fargo, N.D.
