OWATONNA, Minn. — Claire Spencer (So./Newport News, Va./Menchville) notched victories in both singles and doubles as the Carleton College women’s tennis team dispatched of Concordia College by a 9-0 score. With the victory, the No. 29-ranked Knights improve to 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in MIAC play.
Play for this match opened with singles action. Spencer and her teammates showed they could handle the change in format as the Knights dropped only four total games in sweeping the six singles matches. Seniors Molly Hemes (Green Bay, Wis./Preble) and Katherine Greenberg (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) as well as sophomores Mikayla Becich (Bradfordwoods, Pa./North Allegheny) and Julia Krumholz (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) each posted shutouts during their singles matches.
The momentum stayed with Carleton upon the shift to doubles with Anne Lombardi (Sr./Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and Joyce Yu (So./Taipei, Taiwan/Taipei American School) posting an 8-0 triumph at the first spot. Spencer and Caroline Greenberg (Fy./St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) recorded the same score at third doubles.
The Knights face a daunting challenge if they want to keep their unblemished record intact as Carleton travels to face Division I program University of Minnesota on Sunday, Feb. 23.
