ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Carleton College women’s track and field team closed out its regular outdoor season at the Tommie Twilight meet in St. Paul, notching more than a few impressive performances.

Carleton College’s Ruth Steinke and Amelia Campbell are making the most of their senior years. Following fantastic performances at the prestigious Drake Relays, the duo was tabbed the MIAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes-of-the-Week.

The Carleton College women’s track and field team split up on Saturday, sending a handful of athletes to compete against some of the best collegiate and Olympian runners in the country at the 2016 Drake Relays in Des Moines. The majority of the Knights headed the opposite direction and took part in the Janis Rider Invitational at Macalester College.

With a strong finish to the seven-event competition, Carleton College senior Amelia Campbell totaled 4,870 points and placed fourth in the heptathlon at the 107th Drake Relays. Her point total is second in Division III this season. Of the 18 athletes to complete the heptathlon, 11 of them came from NCAA Division I programs, one is from a D-II program, three from D-III schools, and three unattached competitors including two with multiple All-America awards to their credit.

Eight members of the Carleton College track and field teams are slated to participate at the 107th Drake Relays from April 27-30. Amelia Campbell, Emma Grisanzio, Kayla McKinsey, Tonya Piergies, Elsa Sandeno, and Ruth Steinke will represent the women’s program, while sophomore Jerry Cook-Gallardo and senior Hart Hornor will race for the men’s team.

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – On a blustery, sunny Saturday at Laird Stadium, the Carleton College women’s track and field team hosted and took on 13 other teams from around the North Star State in the Carleton Relays.
