NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Despite sending only a small contingent across town to compete at the Manitou Classic, the Carleton College women’s track and field claimed victories in five events at the unscored meet hosted by St. Olaf and attended by a half-dozen schools.
Emma Grisanzio (Fy./Carol Stream, Ill./Wheaton North) was one of two double-winners for the Knights. She was first to the line in the finals of the 100- and 200-meter dashes, recording times of 13.50 and 27.91 respectively. She also placed second in the long jump at 5.02 meters (16 feet, 5.5 inches).
Kao Sutton (Sr./Hilo, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools Hawaii) claimed the top spot in the shot put at 12.74 meters (41 feet, 9.5 inches) and doubled up with a 20-foot victory in the discus, registering a distance of 41.98 meters (137 feet, 8.75 inches).
Trish Hare (Fy./Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) had the other event victory as she and Avery Johnson (Jr./Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) finished 1-2 in the javelin at 33.56 meters (110 feet, 1.25 inches) and 32.66 meters (107 feet, 1.83 inches), respectively.
Other second-place results were turned in by Amelia Campbell (So./Sturgeon Bay, Wis./Sturgeon Bay) in the shot put and Katie Richards (Jr./Needham, Mass./Buckingham, Browne & Nichols) in the pole vault. Richards established a new PR as she cleared 3.20 meters (10 feet, 6 inches), ranking her second in team history.
The Knights will host the Carleton Relays on Saturday, April 19 at Laird Stadium.
