Northfield, Minn. - Melissa Logan finished first in the shot put and weight throw as Carleton hosted the three-team Meet of the Hearts. Andrea Grunst and Melissa Grunst finished one-two in the 5,000-meter run and set new personal bests in the process, Cassie Funke won the 1,500 meters run and Sarah Margoles won the pole vault.
The Knights placed second behind Luther College (Iowa) in the team race. The Norse tallied 143 points followed by Carleton’s 127 and Hamline’s 65. The Knights picked up five first-place finishes led by Logan’s sweep of the throwing events. The senior captain won the shot put with a toss of 38’6 1⁄4”. Carleton swept the top three spots of the weight toss with Logan taking first followed by Liz Durham and Anna Noren. Andrea Grunst won the 5,000 in a time of 18:16.02 followed immediately by Melissa Grunst. Other first-place finishes included Funke in the 1,500 in 4:53.49 and Margoles in the pole vault with a vault of 9’8”.
Kestrel Shwaiger had a solid performance turning in a pair of second-place finishes for Carleton. She ran the 400-meter dash in 66.38 and posted a jump of 15’2 1⁄4” in the long jump. Julia Lippitt broke the five-foot barrier in the high jump yet again, placing second at 5’2 1⁄4”. Laura Hudson ran the 1,000 in 3:09.97 which was good enough for second place.
