MINNEAPOLIS -- At the University of Minnesota Parents Day Open, first-year Simone Childs-Walker (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) continued her spectacular campaign, collecting a dominant win in the 3k with a time of 10:01.63. The next closest runner was more than 14 seconds behind.
Jill Merkle (Fy./Wayzata, Minn./Hopkins) was another freshman standout for the Knights. Despite being new to the long jump, Merkle still managed to qualify for finals in the event. Merkle had strong showings in the 60m and 200m dashes, and completed the 60m hurdles in 9.82 seconds.
Amy Elson (Jr./Davis, Cal./Davis) qualified for finals in the triple jump with a 10.24 marking.
The team faces Macalester later this week, and will continue to work hard to improve in anticipation of the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, which start March 5.
