ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Simone Childs-Walker (Fy./Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) won the 5,000 meter run at the Hamline Invitational with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 17:32.54. She was the Knights’ lone event winner in the first full-squad competition of the outdoor season.
Laura Roach (Jr./Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) finished second to Childs-Walker in the 5K after edging St. Kate’s Greta Sieve down the stretch.
Other highlights:
Jill Merkle (Fy./Wayzata, Minn./Hopkins) placed third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.19.
Clare Franco (Fy./Brunswick, Maine) finished second in the 800-meter run, crossing the line at 2:20.51, two seconds behind the event winner. She was also eighth in the 200-meter dash.
Megan Erlandson (Fy./Minneapolis, Minn./Minnehaha Academy) cleared 2.90 meters to place third in the pole vault.
Kelly Lovett (So./Portland, Ore./Lincoln) recorded a distance of 35.45 meters to finish second in the javelin thrown. She also placed fifth in the shot put and seventh in the discus.
The Knights’ 4x100 meter relay posted a time of 51.85, good for second place.
Carleton hosts St. Olaf, St. Thomas and St. Kate’s this Thursday, April 9.
