NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Knights hosted St. Catherine, St. Olaf and St. Thomas for the Carleton Quadrangular, with the home team finishing third overall. Laura Roach (Jr./Lakeville, Minn./North), running the steeplechase for only the second time, posted a 30-second victory at 11:16.15 for the Knights’ lone event title of the meet. Roach’s time was not only a season best but also the top performance in the MIAC this season.
Jill Merkle (Fy./Wayzata, Minn./Hopkins) finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.91. She crossed the line only 0.1 second behind St. Thomas’ Melissa Kuebler, the 2008 MIAC outdoor runner-up in this event. Merkle also placed third in the javelin and fifth in the high jump.
Clare Franco (Fy./Brunswick, Maine) placed second in the 400-meter hurdles at 66.55, was fourth in the 100-meter dash and javelin, and finished fifth in the long jump at 15-feet, 1.5-inches.
In the 1500-meter run, Karen Campbell (Sr./Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) recorded a time of 4:55.24, good for fourth out of 17 racers. Teammates Taylor Ffitch (Fy./Portland, Ore./St. Mary's) and Sarah Forzley (Jr./South Windsor, Conn.) grabbed the next two spots.
