ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Knights competed at the Macalester Invitational on Saturday, placing seventh out of 11 teams. Laura Roach (Jr./Lakeville, Minn./North) won the 3000-meter steeplechase with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 11:00.33. Sophomore Kelly Lovett (Portland, Ore./Lincoln) prevailed in the javelin throw by a 27-foot margin for Carleton's other event title.
Jill Merkle (Fy./Wayzata, Minn./Hopkins) joined Lovett in the top five of the javelin competition.
Other top five performances include Emma Sando (Sr./Milton, Mass./Middlebury College) placing fourth in the 5000-meter run with a season-best time of 19:51.41.
Karen Campbell (Sr./Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) earned second place in the 1500-meter run, crossing the line at 4:56.66.
Clare Franco (Fy./Brunswick, Maine) finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.85) and fifth in the long jump at 4.72 meters.
Megan Erlandson (Fy./Minneapolis/Minnehaha Academy) cleared a season-best height of 3.01 meters in placing third in the pole vault.
Amy Elson (Jr./Davis, Calif.) finished second in the triple jump at 10.21 meters, and Kaitlin Randolph (Fy./Drummond, Wis.) placed fifth in the same event.
The team competes at the Tommie Twilight on Wednesday, April 29 leading up the MIAC Heptathlon on Thursday, April 30-Friday, May 1.
