Childs-Walker Cruises in 5000 Meter Victory

Simone Childs-Walker (Fy./Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) won the 5000 meter race at the Tommie Twilight with a time of 17:17.06. Her victory was by over a minute over fellow Carleton runner Karen Campbell (Sr./Rochester, N.Y./Brighton). Both Campbell and Childs-Walker ran their best times of the year in the 5000 meter. Childs-Walker's time is the fastest-time in the MIAC this season and an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time, despite having to run in a downpour throughout the entire race.

Laura Roach (Jr./Lakeville, Minn./North) finished second in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:41.80. Roach had the best finish of any MIAC runner. Carleton earned another second place finish from Kelly Lovett (So./Portland, Ore./Lincoln) in the javelin throw with a toss of 37.04 meters.

Several Knights are peaking at the right time just before the MIAC Championships. Christina Knudson (Sr./Decorah, Iowa) set a new personal record by 30 seconds in the 1500 meter run coming in 5:31.27. Kelsey Donald (Jr./Madison, Wisc./Edgewood) had her best sprint series of the year. She finished in the top-12 in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and was within five seconds of the winning 400 meter time. Meghan Erlandson (Fy./Minneapolis, Minn./Minnehaha Academy) also set a new personal record reaching 3.10 meters in the pole vault. She tied for the sixth highest vault.

Carleton hosts the MIAC Track and Field Championships at Laird Stadium on May 8th and 9th.
