NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Competing for the first time on the Laird Stadium track in two years, the Carleton College women’s track and field team held its own against a pair of NCAA Division II programs and two of the better squads from the MIAC. Additionally alumni from the men’s and women’s programs took part in the competition.
This was the first track & field competition at the facility after track had to be re-surfaced following a fall 2010 flood.
Haley Johnson (Jr./Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper) and Clare Franco (Sr./Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) finished second and third overall in the 800-meter run with times of 2:20.85 and 2:21.59 respectively.
Sarah Trautman (So./Lexington, Mass./BBN) also recorded a second-place result in the 1,500-meter run, crossing the line at 4:48.98. Kaitlin Randolph (Sr./Drummond, Wis./Drummond) was fifth in the event.
Alison Smyth (Sr./Billings, Mont./Billings West), Taylor Ffitch (Sr./Portland, Ore./St. Mary's Academy), Colette Celichowski (Fy./Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka), and Rachael Klehm (So./Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) raced to a 3-4-5-6 finish in the 3,000-meter run.
Ellie Wilson (Fy./Roseville, Minn./Roseville) was the Knights’ top finisher in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
In the field events, Avery Johnson (Fy./Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) was third in the javelin with a distance of 97 feet, 11 inches.. Kao Sutton (So./Hilo, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools Hawaii) turned in a fifth-place showing in the discus as she recorded a toss of 37.35 meters in her final attempt.
Megan Erlandson (Sr./Minneapolis, Minn./Minnehaha Academy) cleared 10 feet (3.05 meters) to finish third in the pole vault.
