SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The spring break competition trip for the Carleton College women’s track and field team wrapped up with a small contingent taking part in the San Francisco State University Distance Carnival.
Despite racing in separate heats of the 1500-meter run, senior Haley Johnson (Sr./Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper) and sophomore Colette Celichowski (So./Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) placed 25th and 26th, respectively out of 61 entrants. Johnson’s time of 4:47.54 was only 0.05 second better than her teammate’s.
Ruth Steinke (Fy./Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) won her heat in the steeplechase and finished eighth overall with a time of 11:22.18, tops in the MIAC over the last three seasons.
Sally Donovan (Fy./Minneapolis, Minn./South) ran to an 11th-place result in the 2-mile run with her time of 11:51.04.
Reilly Simon (Fy./Grapevine, Texas/Grapevine) finished second and Kayla McKinsey (Fy./North Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) tied for sixth in the second bracket of the 200-meter dash, recording times of 27.08 and 27.75, respectively.
Carleton is scheduled to compete at the Hamline Invitational on Saturday, April 6. Action begins at 10 a.m.
