Thank you from athletic director Gerald Young and Carleton’s club and varsity athletic teams
Thank you from recent student athletes
“When we received our new uniforms we all loved them and noticed how much lighter and more airy they were than the old ones, and we began to attribute our speed to their lightness. Now, whenever any of us get a steal in a game, we give the uniforms credit!”— Gabbi Stienstra ’16 (Women’s Basketball)
“Having a group of alumni athletes seeking to support those of us here now is a wonderful thing. I know that there are people who play club sports who often cannot make some necessary payments in order to travel with their respective teams or play with them in tournaments and such, so having a group of people willing to offer support to those who need it is very beneficial to the community. Thank you.” — Matt Godfrey ’15 (GOP)
“Simply put, Carleton Alpine would not be able to exist without the generous help of the CAI. It makes free transportation between Carleton and Welch Village and activities such as our annual trip to Lutsen possible…. The generous donations from the CAI allow Carleton Alpine to remain THE BEST SKIERS ON THE MOUNTAIN!” — Nate Livingston ’16
“The Carleton Water Polo team is extremely appreciative of the financial support that we have received from alumni organizations such as the Carleton Athletic Initiative. As a student-run club sports team, we are in charge of both coordinating practices and tournaments and managing teams finances. It is important to us to keep the cost of dues low so that cost will not be a barrier for any student interested in joining the team.” — Sam Sharpe ’14
“The additional funding that the Men’s Rugby Team was provided has been absolutely crucial to us going into the spring season. We used the money provided to purchase indoor practice time which allowed us to teach new players all of the aspects that involve contact, as well as ensuring veteran players got some practice after being away from rugby for almost four months. The practice time has improved our competitiveness, improved our team bonding, allowed us to have a lot more fun, and most importantly has enhanced our safety as we head into the new season.” — Roberto Sande ’15
“For the first time we were able to store our boats—protected from the winter elements—within walking distance of the lake, eliminating the need to devote time and resources to hiring a trailer to move boats between the lake and campus. Thank you for allowing us to maximize our time spent enjoying sailing and investing in the future of the sailing club.” — Theodore Retzloff ’15
Founded in 1989, the Carleton’s Women’s Lacrosse club was one of the first in the area. They are a a competitive member of the Upper Midwest Women’s Lacrosse League, with practice sessions four times a week and games held throughout the first half of spring term. CAI funds helped the team pay increased referee charges for a fall 2013 tournament hosted at Carleton.
