Welcome!
We offer a variety of programs for high school students and high school teachers.
Every summer more than 80 high school students, entering their senior year of high school, gather on the campus of Carleton College for three weeks of intense writing instruction, activities and friendship as they participate in the Summer Writing Program. Emphasizing a writing process approach, the program helps students learn to compose the kinds of academic papers that they will write in college.
The Summer Teaching Institute is designed for high school teachers of existing or proposed Advanced Placement courses, enriched classes, accelerated classes, or small group tutorials. Workshops are offered in the areas of Calculus, Chemistry, Computer Science, English, European History, French, Government, Human Geography, Mathematics, Macroeconomics, Physics, Psychology, Spanish, Statistics, and more. The courses are designed to address the individual needs of the participants. For example, teachers may want to modify an existing course, create a new course, or develop new teaching materials.
Carleton College is honored to host an inspiring summer program designed for the best and brightest college-bound students representing high schools across the country. The Carleton Liberal Arts Experience (CLAE) will select 50 high school students who are current sophomores and bring them to Carleton, all expenses paid, for a one-week summer program. The CLAE program introduces the strengths of a liberal arts education through an array of courses in science, art, social sciences, and technology.
In addition, we have the Carleton Summer Science Institute (CSSI). Students will have an opportunity to design their experience and focus on a specific area for their research project. During the program, students will go on field trips and explore different elements of science. The program culminates with a final presentation of research at the end of the program.
