In the annual survey by U.S. News & World Report magazine, Carleton has consistently ranked among thetop 10 best liberal arts colleges in the country. Its faculty was ranked number one in commitment to teaching in 2003. Seventy percent of our students graduate in the top 10 percent of their high school class. (The class which entered Carleton in the fall of 2006 included 100 National Merit Scholars, four National Achievement Scholars, and five National Hispanic Recognition Scholars.)

Of its 198 full-time faculty, 95 percent have earned the highest possible degrees in their field of study (Ph.D., M.F.A., M.Mus., etc.) The student/faculty ratio is 9 to 1. The average class size is 17.

The college operates on a 3-3-3 calendar. Students take an average of three courses during each of three 10-week terms. The academic year begins in September and ends in early June, with a long recess between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day and a shorter one in March.
