Biology
The emphasis of the class is on an: overview of the curriculum as published by College Board,* the participation of teachers in setting up as many of the twelve labs, running of the labs and evaluation of the labs as time permits and a discussion on preparation for the exam itself. There is also a technology component to the course and an afternoon in the computer lab that explores possible assignments and web sites that are useful. Teachers are asked to participate in making a classroom presentation to the group on something that they have had success with in their classes. This presentation does not have to be “AP* level” it can be from a pre-AP* class. One of the most important aspects of the summer experience is forming a network of people with whom you can communicate as you teach the course and have questions or problems during the year.
Annie Bosacker is a Visiting Professor of Biology at Carleton College. Her research focuses on the wild baboons of Gombe, a Tanzanian park made famous by Jane Goodall and her work with chimpanzees. Annie has also developed and taught a successful AP* biology curriculum. She looks forward to teaming up with veteran AP* teacher Ann Griffin and working with another fantastic group of biology teachers.
