Human Geography

The Advanced Placement* Human Geography summer institute at Carleton College is designed for both experienced and non-experienced teachers.  The seven major topics of the course (Introduction to Geography; Population; Culture; Political; Agriculture and Rural Landscape; Economic Development and Industrialization; and Urban) will be covered during the first two days of the institute.  During these first two days, participants will recognize key information necessary to begin a successful Human Geography course and lessons will be modeled for each of the seven topics.  On days three and four participants will identify tips and strategies in preparing students to take the AP* Human Geography exam.  Also, participants will explore key web sites pertaining to the course as well as preparing a lesson to share with the group.  At the end of the course, participants will receive close to eighty lessons including those presented by the participants.

Rick Gindele started teaching high school geography in 1994, and has been involved with the AP* Human Geography program since 1997. Rick has been a reader and a table leader for AP* Human Geography.  In 2011 Rick was appointed to serve on the AP* Human Geography test development committee.
Rick holds a BA in Geography from the University of Connecticut and an MA in Education from the University of Colorado.
