Spanish Language

Teaching AP* high school Spanish and preparing students for success on the AP* Spanish Language Exam, as well as for university study, is the focus of this workshop. Recent major changes to the AP* Spanish Language Exam will be highlighted. Practical, proficiency-based teaching strategies involving the use of authentic materials, internet resources and the integration of language skills will be discussed. Appropriate classroom texts and materials will be examined. Previous participants may take this course for credit.

 

Jorge Brioso

 

 

Jorge Brioso (PHD City University of New York) teaches twentieth century Peninsular Literature and Film at Carleton as well as Latin American Literature. His main areas of interest are literary theory, philosophy and aesthetics. His research focuses on the twentieth century Spanish essay and poetry: Unamuno, Ortega, Machado, Zambrano as well as Cuban literature: Casal, Lezama and Virgilio Piñera.

 

 

 

Richard Hallberg

 

 

 

Richard Hallberg teaches Spanish at Marquette University High School in Milwaukee, WI. He has extensive experience teaching the AP* Spanish Language course. Richard is an AP* reader and a Certified Consultant for the College Board*. He has enjoyed presenting at Carleton for many years.
