Elementary School Tutoring

Usually Sibley, Longfellow, The Village School, or Prairie Creek Elementary School

Weekly Commitment

Tutors can work in local elementary schools or other public locations for a minimum of one hour a week. Tutors work one-on-one with children or assist a classroom teacher by working with a small group. Carleton also participates in Northfield Reads and Counts; federal initiatives that place paid students tutors in local public schools to increase literacy and math skills of young people. ESL/ELL Tutoring - Youth / Language Exchange

Local Public Schools

Weekly Commitment

The English as a Second Language/English Language Learners (ESL/ELL) Tutoring program places tutors with young people studying English. Tutors work with individual students at one of the Northfield Public Schools to help with class assignments. The time commitment is one to two hours per week. Previous ESL and language experience is not required, but is helpful.

Middle School Tutoring

Usually Northfield Middle School

Weekly Commitment

Middle School Tutors work one-on-one with students who need academic assistance. Volunteers provide support and encouragement for the students. Tutors must be reliable since it’s crucial for the students’ progress that a regular schedule is maintained. Volunteers tutor for at least one hour each week.

High School Tutoring

Usually Northfield High School

Weekly Commitment

Northfield High School tutors work one-on-one with a 9th - 12th grade student during free class periods or after school. Tutoring is a great opportunity to learn as well as teach. Volunteers must be reliable and minimally tutor one hour each week. Carleton students are typically needed to assist students with many school subjects.
