Major: Sociology/Anthropology

I work for Greenvale Park Elementary School and the Northfield Middle School as an America Reads and Counts Tutor. There are many benefits to my job, including feeling like you're doing something that matters, helping people that need it, not just sitting in an office filing on campus. It's more like a real job, more real life experience.
I talk to the teachers on a regular basis and we talk about how to help students that need extra attention and solutions to problems when some are getting behind. I feel relaxed about asking them questions or letting them know that I can't make it because they really appreciate any help they can get.
I've learned how passionate I've become about education and hope to incoporate my knowledge of the education system with sociology to eventually help those that need it, especially of the Latino demographic, but anyone that needs it in general. Maybe even if its not through education, one on one interactions help me further my personal skills to apply to any profession.
I love the students I work with and watching them grow and learn makes the job worth it. It is sometimes tough to create relationships with them but with time, the bond forms and it is great.
